Galveston, Texas – American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier’s M/V ARC Resolve unloaded 3 x GE Shunt Reactors and accompanying accessories earlier this week at the port of Galveston.

The reactors, each weighing around 60 metric tons (MT), were loaded onto the ARC Resolve at the port of Santos, Brazil and will ultimately be used in support of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) grid modernization project in the Pacific Northwest.

“ARC is proud to partner with both General Electric and the Department of Energy in assisting the Bonneville Power Administration in achieving their long-term strategic plan,” said Chris Barber, Head of Preference Cargo Sales.

The BPA is a federal agency created by an act of Congress in 1937 to market electric power from the Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River and to construct facilities necessary to transmit that power. These reactors will be used to upgrade/modernize existing facilities outlined in the BPA’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan – the strategic plan describes a series of actions the BPA is taking over the next several years to modernize assets and system operations, provide competitive rates, and to meet transmission customer needs efficiently and responsively.
