NEW YORK – In a ceremony Saturday June 24th in New York City, American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier (ARC) President and Chief Executive Officer Eric Ebeling was presented with the Herb Brand Award from the Maritime Port Council of Greater New York/New Jersey. The award was presented to Mr. Ebeling at the 55th Annual Dinner Dance in recognition of ARC’s dedication to a strong and viable American Maritime industry and ensuring “that the American flag flies from the sterns of all U.S. Merchant Marine vessels”.

Seafarers International Union (SIU) Executive Vice President Augie Tellez introduced Mr. Ebeling at the event. Tellez presented Ebeling as someone who “works with the government, the military, the U.S. Transportation Command and the industry to make sure [sealift] demands are met.” In his remarks, Mr. Ebeling added “ARC’s actions in support of the Department of Defense’s sealift and intermodal logistics requirements, including the recent purchase of two new U.S.-flag Ro-Ro vessels for the Maritime Security Program that are among the most militarily-useful vessels in the U.S.-flag international fleet, show that we are dedicated to the cause and in it for the long haul”.

Citing Albert Einstein’s maxim “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough,” Mr. Ebeling concluded “that is certainly the case for the American merchant marine and U.S.-flag shipping. In this room, we’re all familiar with the great story of delivering for the military time and again, the importance of the network to national security, and as [SIU President] Mike Sacco puts it so well, “job, jobs, jobs”. Our message needs to be stated simply, and it needs to be repeated regularly – and not just to our friends, but to our would-be enemies and potential allies.”

Other Maritime Port Council awards were also presented to Representative Duncan Hunter of California and the President of the SIU of Canada, James Given.
